Father's Day Special
By Ruth Graham
With Father's Day coming up soon, don't be so dumb as to buy him one of those gross coffee mugs, He will picture you in the pharmacy or the supermarket, grabbing the coffee mug, at the last minute after you picked up your prescription or the toilet paper, just before you raced to the checkout. Plan ahead. Look for things made in the USA, either totally or for a considerable percent of their value. We agree it isn't easy.
Cheap labor in foreign countries means that American based manufacturing has been seriously affected. American plants close down and the jobs and the manufacturing slip across the oceans. Everything is made in wonderful places to visit, like Malaysia, China, Thailand.
Look. You want to make Dad feel special. His gift has to have a label saying Made in the USA . It means you went to a lot of trouble to find it. A huge amount of trouble. Not like everyone elses kid who grabs the coffee mug. You need to start looking now. There's stuff on the internet and well known stores are sending out spring catalogues.
One we've seen, expensive but known for their quality is Orvis, great happy catalogue. with a few items of American Made Clothing. Orvis is now listing three sport jackets made in the USA. Maybe all the kids in the family can chip in and buy one. And the jackets look just like what any proud Dad might like to wear taking his family out to dinner on Father's Day. Orvis also has a variety of hats, belts, other leather articles including a few styles of men shoes
.
