Gift Baskets You Can Create For Mothers Day
By Joanne Greco
Created by Anna Jarvis, who never became a mother herself, Mothers Day started as a small idea to honor her own mother. Anna began a campaign to establish a national Mothers Day to honor all mothers, living and deceased, after her mother passed away. In the end, she was disappointed with the commercialization of the day, which is why our I think Mothers Day is a perfect holiday to give a personalized gift.
Making a gift basket is a great way to create a personalized gift and keep within your budget, because it can be as simple or extravagant as you like. Here are some simple tips on creating a thoughtful, inexpensive Mothers Day gift basket.
You can start with a basket, or any type of container that will hold small to medium sized items. Try using a decorative flower pot, a pretty waste paper pail or a colander. Line it with a feminine cloth napkin, shredded shiny gift wrap or colorful tissue paper.
When gathering items to put inside the "basket" think about her hobbies and interests. Does she have a favorite food, movie or sport? Here's a list of possible fillers.
- gift certificate for a foot massage, manicure or pedicure
- new slippers
- a poem you wrote
- scented soap and body lotion
- flavored coffees
- herbal teas
- inspirational book
- fragrant candle
- children or grand-children's artwork
- children or grand-children's hand/foot print
- create a journal with your favorite and most treasured memories of your time together
- personalized apron or tote bag
- homemade cookies, candy and muffins
- jewelry
- perfume
- photo album filled with pictures of your family
- flower seeds
"I wanted it to be a day of sentiment, not profit. " - Anna Jarvis
