Giving Out Appropriate Retirement Gifts
By Angel Delacruz
It is often appropriate to give a gift to someone who you know is retiring. Whether it be retiring from work, or from a service, or from another activity, giving a retirement gift is a sweet, thoughtful gesture that will surely be appreciated. This shows respect and honor and holds a lot of meaning not just for the recipient, but for the giver as well. These days, people don't really think that giving a retirement gift is all that big of a deal. But receiving retirement gifts from family and friends will be remembered and treasured.
Now, let's say you decided to give a retirement gift and you don't really know what too give or where to look. Finding the right retirement gift shouldn't be all that hard if you know the person and you know his or her personality. Since that person is retiring, giving a gift that is related to that person's hobbies or interests, is a surefire way to get his or her attention. Give the type of gift that is appropriate at this stage in a person's life. The aim would be to make the recipient feel good about retiring and excited about the next chapter in their life.
If you know someone from work, or one of your employees are retiring, it's also appropriate to give that person a retirement gift. Remember, that person stayed with the company long enough to merit a retirement and giving a retirement gift shows appreciation and thanks. It doesn't have to be expensive or extravagant, it can be simple, as long as it serves its purpose. It also helps if you know the person well. If you don't like the person who is retiring, give a gift anyway, at least out of respect. Just think of what that person's reaction would be to receive a gift from someone he least expects it from.
There are lots of business stores out there that specialize on business gifts. You can even browse sites online and find unique gifts that are perfect for retirement. If the person who is retiring has been in service for many years and has a good reputation and has helped others regularly, it might be more feasible to give a special and well thought out gift, not to mention more costly. If on the other hand the person is retiring from the company after a short period only, or the person is not really likable, you can spend less for the retirement gift.
