Last Minute Mother's Day Gifts
By Alexandra Zeb
If you're having a hard time believing we are already into the fifth month of 2008, then you probably also just realized that Mother's Day is this Sunday. What a predicament! Thankfully, we have the Internet to help us out in this department (what did we ever do before it?) There are plenty of snazzy gift ideas out there available with the click of your mouse (and the digits to any major credit card). So tune in for some great gift ideas for that beloved woman who put up with you for all those years, and still does to this day...
The way I see it, the best gifts are always the simple ones. Unless, of course you are a world-renowned poet, in which case you can simply jot a few words onto a nice piece of paper and have mom bawling. But for those of us who are not lyrically talented, you simply can't go wrong with the following three gift ideas...
1. Flowers
2. Jewelry
3. Gift Certificate
I know what you must be thinking...boring! But honestly, who doesn't love flowers? And if mom is into it, couple it with a nice bottle of wine, or perhaps some special chocolates or something that she really likes. For instance, my mom absolutely flips over chocolate covered cherries. Just showing that you know what her preferences are is a great way to show her you care and you're always thinking about her.
The same thought process applies to jewelry. If you don't tailor the gift to your target audience (Mom), then it will look like you ran to the corner store on your way to the house for dinner. Make sure you have mom pegged before you make a jewelry purchase. Does she like gold or silver? Does she have a particular affinity for anything in particular? Perhaps that sterling silver angel charm would be perfect, because you know how much she loves angels. Maybe her birthstone is the opal, and she absolutely adores opals! See where I'm going with this?
The gift certificate can be tricky. You certainly don't want mom to think that you simply couldn't think of anything creative, so you brought her this lovely piece of paper. You also don't want it to look like a last-ditch effort. So again, what does mom really like? Pick up a gift certificate at her favorite spa, and get her a nice relaxing massage or that long overdue pedicure. Does she have a particular clothing store she frequents regularly? Buy the certificate there. Any extra effort will go a long way. Gift certificates are perfect for even the hardest-to-please moms!
Good Luck, and Happy Mother's Day!
