Surprise Mom on Mother's Day with Homemade Gifts
By Amy L. Martin
If your Mother's Day budget is quite low, or you simply like crafting and home made stuff, this article is for you. I have compiled some ideas you can use to surprise your Mom with a nice gift.
Painted mugs are a good alternative. You need to get some white mugs which won't cost you much, and the painting materials. The design you will paint depends on your own ability, and your mother's taste. Does she like flowers? Do you feel you can paint a nice flower or two on the mug? A simple red heart and the words I Love You Mom will do very well too. You can also paint a smile on the cup and "For The Best Mom" words. Ideas for this are endless. An important aspect to get good results is to get the right paint for the mug's surface.
Another good idea, where you can express all your creativity, is a photo frame. You can use different materials, depending on what you can get or find: cardboard, wood, ceramic. The photo frame should be painted, and also decorated with anything that comes to your mind. You can make a sea motive, painting it in blue and applying some fish or other sea motives on it. You can make it romantic, painting it pink or red, and either applying or painting over some heart shapes or flowers. Just think of what your Mom would like. A nice touch is to give her the frame with a picture in it already: a picture of the whole family, or just you and your Mom.
If your mother enjoys flowers, and you are good at it, you can make her a nice flowers arrangement. Or make a vase for her to keep fresh flowers. The vase can be painted same as the mugs, you just get a plain vase, or even an empty bottle, and work on it to obtain a nice look.
If you have a cardboard or wooden box, you can turn it into a nice box for Mom to keep jewelry. Again, you will need paint and materials to decorate it. If it is a cardboard box, instead of painting it you can cover it with nice paper.
A painted flowerpot is another alternative. You need to get a clay paint pot and decorate it using acrylic paints. You can give it to Mom empty or already with a plant in it.
The possibilities of making a present for Mom at home are endless. You need lots of imagination. There will be materials available at home, like empty bottles or boxes, you can start with. It is a matter of imagination, patience and dedication. Your Mom will always love something you created yourself to give her.
