Survey Results - Father's Day Gifts and Buying Patterns
By Amanda McManus
Following a recent consumer survey on Fathers Day Gift buying, award winning online gift retailer Cocoon Collection found a number of interesting statistics amongst the results, helping to shed some light on consumers' buying patterns, habits, likes and dislikes in the run up to Father's Day.
Over 20% of responses indicated buyers would be purchasing a Father's Day Gift for their partner, and an additional 12% of replies stated they would be buying for their Father-in-law.
Almost three quarters of respondents indicated that they would like to spend between ฃ10-ฃ30 on their Father's Day gift this year, and 52% of respondents stated they usually spent the same amount on Mother's Day. Interestingly, however, 38% stated they usually spent more on Mother's Day than Father's Day gifts, and a miserly 0% said the reverse was true!
Some traditional beliefs were upheld in the survey results, with over 70% saying they felt Father's Day was more difficult to buy for than Mother's Day. The type of Father's Day presents people were looking for were fairly widespread, but just sneaking in front were quirky gifts with 18%, while bringing up the rear were gifts for the whole family with only 3%.
Most people (46%) said they would buy their gifts a couple of weeks before the event, and a whopping 47% said they would buy online. Only 6% of people said they would leave it to the last minute, and 14% stated they would buy when they were shopping for something else and saw something that took their fancy.
And finally, a message that indicates advertising the date is always worthwhile well in advance, almost 75% of survey respondents did not know when Father's Day was. So, just in case you don't know, it's Sunday 15th June!
