Guys Picking Out a Baby Gift, Do You Need a Suggestion?

For us guys the task of picking out a great baby gift for a friend, family member, client or coworker can seem a little daunting. Guys want to come up with something that shows they care and gave it some thought, but if they have no children in their family often they are really not sure how not to make a mistake. We offer a few suggestions of what to pick and what not to pick so you look good and actually get something they will like.

First of all, come up with a price you want to spend before you go into the store or start perusing online. Often the sales person can direct you to the newborn section. Many times a guy will think about toys and gifts that are no appropriate for a newborn and may not take into consideration the size of the new parent's home or child's bedroom. You don't want to go with things for the walls like artwork, unless you know the colors of the room or it is personalized. If it's personalized you get a little more slack because it has potential to be a keepsake. Stick with small to medium size gifts so you are safe and focus on the something you may know about the family or new baby. For example if they are into boating perhaps a cute outfit or stuffed animal relating to boating. If they are a more intellectual family and tend not to watch much TV there are many great books you can choose from and if you start with some bedtime stories that can be a big help for the parents when they are putting their new little one off to bed and can last for a few years.

Personalized choices are pretty popular from blankets, to robes, sweaters and wood flip stools. If you get something customized with baby's name the parents will know you took a little extra time and be impressed.

So if you are a guy and don't have much experience with shopping for unique baby gifts follow these general guidelines and you should be all set. Don't get anything for the bedroom walls, keep the size of the gift to a practical level, ask for help so you don't get toys that are made for a 3 or 4 year old and if you can personalize the gift it may be worth it because you'll win extra points!
