Becoming Gifted at Gift Giving

Let's face it guys, not all of you is gifted when it comes to the art of giving gifts. This is especially true when we are talking about giving a gift for the special lady in your life. Assume for a moment you actually remembered the gift giving occasion. To be fair, Christmas and Valentine's Day are rarely missed but birthdays and anniversaries tend to be last minute shopping sprees. So, regardless of whether or not you remembered to get a gift in time, the stress of what to give is likely still there. What will she like? How much should I spend? Where do I go to shop? The possibilities seem endless and in a panic you may be tempted to go to the old standby of a dozen red roses. Don't!

Now, women do like roses, don't get me wrong. But do you know what women like even more? Originality and thoughtfulness. If you come home with a gift she wasn't expecting and one that showed a lot of thought, she will be thrilled. Save the roses for an average Wednesday when you are simply thinking of her and want to do something nice. How much should you spend on her? Really, the honest answer is to spend what you can afford to spend without being too extravagant. It really is the thought that counts as long as you actually put some thought into it. Some of the best gifts you can give cost absolutely nothing.

If you are creative, make her something. If you have a talent, use that to dedicate something to her whether it's a poem, story, drawing, knick knack or song. You can do something for her that makes her life easier. What woman would not like a bath drawn for her or a relaxing foot massage? How about a CD of music she would enjoy listening to while in the car? For her office a framed picture of you with a small, signed note is a wonderful gesture. An evening alone just the two of you while you make dinner, select a movie for the two of you to watch, and curl up with a bottle of wine is a great way to share an intimate evening. All these things cost nothing, or very little, but will mean a lot to her. It may take some time and effort but that is precisely what she will appreciate. If you want to go shopping for her, the key to shopping for a woman is to know her. You should know her style in clothes, entertainment, her hobbies and her favorite foods. A book she's been wanting, the DVD of her favorite movie, a new pair of shoes, a day at the spa or gift certificate to her favorite restaurant are all good ideas. But when shopping for your lady, keep in mind that you want to buy a gift that will dazzle her and let her know you are paying attention.

In order to become gifted at gift giving is simply to observe and listen. The better you know the lady in your life, the more gift ideas you will have that will be perfect for her. Anyone can throw money around and find a gift that is impressive if only for its price tag. It takes a lot more than money, though, to impress a woman because you are showing you care. That is the type of gift that is infinitely more pleasurable and will be greatly appreciated.
